Shem Meluce

Shem Meluce

He became interested in music as early as eight years old in Church.   Shem Meluce, a natural born talent, discovered his skills as a songwriter when he wrote his first song, which was sung by a local church group at a Christmas event. He later composed songs for weddings, dedications, baptismal services and graduation ceremonies.

As his skills as a self-taught guitarist and drummer developed, he and other young men from his community of Laborie and church, formed a band called United Brothers For Christ (UB4C) of which Shem was the lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter.  As a group they featured in concerts island-wide allowing him to share the stage with some of the best in Gospel music.  He has worked alongside music heavyweights such as Lt. Stitchie, Junior Tucker, DJ Nicholas, Sherwin Gardner, Manifest, J Square, 2nd Chance, Evangelist Wendy Mitchell, Evangelist Bridget Blucher,Jadee, Phil Tarver, Crystal Akins, Pastor Terrance Baynes, Emrand Henry and many others. He has also ministered in St. Vincent, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, British Virgin Islands,Bahamas, Senegal West Africa, England and USA.

He blends smooth vocals with conscious lyrics to produce a unique style of gospel music. His message is one of redemption, highlighting both social and spiritual issues that affect today’s generation.  It is one that expresses his passion for the people and spreading the good news as it motivates, comforts and encourages faith in God.  His sound is timeless;skilfully weaving vibrato with melodic falsettos backed by Reggae, acoustic and Zouk rhythms.

In 2009, after much agitation from fans, producers and DJs alike, Shem decided to go into studio with various producers and members of his band for live instrumentation on all the tracks of his debut CD called “OUT OF THE SHADOWS”.  His previously recorded and released singles “Everything is Gonna be Right” and “Nothing Can Compare” (August 2005-2006) along with “Love is in the Air”(2008) having gotten much airplay, locally, regionally and internationally, were featured on this CD. For the making of this album, Shem teamed up with St. Lucian producers Werner “Semi” Francis and Patrice Regis of Fourya Studio, Shomari Maxwell of Sweet Notes Studio, Christopher Neil of The Den Studio and Marvin St. Ange and Delan Joseph of True Vine Records.  The album, featuring Linda “Chocolate” Berthier was mastered by Jamaican music producer and engineer, Dale “Dizzle” Virgo.

Since the release of his album, Shem’s goal for reaching out to people has driven him towards many touring opportunities around the world with his main focus being, bringing truth and hope to those in need. In an effort to more effectively fulfill this mission, he continues to strive in the betterment of his craft, which opened the doors of Bahamian Gospel Label DunamusSoundz Music Group in January of 2013, where he is now signed on as a singer on the label.

In the year 2014 Shem was nominated in four categories at the annual Caribbean Marlin awards held in the Bahamas.
