The sweet soca tunes from neighbouring islands were a tease: the melody, the perfected chords, the sweet groovy feel: everything about it seemed like bacchanal bliss that made us crave for our own. The wait was long, but it’s finally here.
The Opening of Carnival, titled Odyssey: Journey into Carnival, was held last week Sunday at Samaan’s Park—what an opening!
Epic performances, a carnival parade, an introduction to the carnival beauties, good food, good friends and laughter. As cliché as this may sound, if you missed it, you missed out. Believe me!
A number of beauties introduced themselves to the enthusiastic crowd, who quickly made their way as close as possible to the stage.
Miss Queen of Gros Iset, Miss Eduval and the National Carnival Queen contestants, introduced themselves with radiant smiles. Poise in carnival splendor, the girls gave an introduction that has us aching for the main event.
The performances by the various artistes were phenomenal. Arthur, Teddyson John, Mongstar, Derek Yarde Project, Superman HD, Ricky T, Ezra D’ Fun Machine, and others, poured their heart and soul into their performance.
It was Superman HD, who later teamed up with Ricky T, to perform their soca hit, ‘Perfect Storm’, who were the people’s favourite however; the two brought an unbelievable energy to the show, that had the crowd delirious.
It was magical—the kaleidoscope of colours, the sweet, sweet soca beats, the carnival beauties—everything absolutely wonderful.
Good riddance carnival tabanca! Bacchanal is here to stay!
