It’s an event that promises to marry an age tradition with music, food, and family fun. Swawé Kwéyòl is quickly becoming a staple on the calendar of activities for Kwéyòl weekend. This year organizers have raised the bar from last by adding Azonto mega star, Enetimi Alfred Odon or as he is better known to fans – Timaya to the already all-star studded line up.
Timaya is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who founded the South SouthHip Hop group Dem Mama Soldiers. His solo career began in 2006 with the release of “Dem Mama”, which also appeared on his debut album, True Story released the following year. His second album Gift and Grace was released in 2008.
Timaya gained further visibility and international prominence through his third studio album De Rebirth, and its lead single “Plantain Boy”. Both were commercially successful but became a Saint. Lucian sensation thanks to his 2012, release of Upgrade, which spawned hits “Bum Bum”, “Sexy Ladies”, and “Malonogede” all of which are still on heavy rotation on radio stations island wide.
The four Headies Awards and one Nigeria Music Award winner is set to headline SwawéKwéyòlon Saturday 24th October, at the Fond D’Or Nature Heritage Park alongside EvaLucian and Friends and D.Y.P. Patrons can also expect performances from their favourite local acts including the best solo bands the island has to offer, as well as the most mouth-watering Kwéyòl dishes.
