The George Charles Secondary School celebrated their 24th anniversary on Tuesday 17th November at the Temple of Faith Church in Odsan. The morning ceremony also paid homage to students of the various forms, many of them receiving awards for academic and sporting excellence.
Several guest speakers shared in the celebration with remarks that lamented the schools ongoing struggles from its inception and its ability to overcome such hurdles. The staff and students were applauded as various achievements throughout the year were highlighted by the Principal- Mr. Alfred, the Minister of Education, Human Resource and Labour –Dr. Robert Lewis, and the Keynote Speaker, Mr. Kendell Eugene.
The invited guests who weren’t privy to the school’s achievements were predictably taken aback when the school’s yearly accomplishments were revealed, some of which included winning the Junior Calypso Monarch competition and Company of the Year in Junior Achievement programme for their creation Gem Papier, which also earned the prestigious Governor General’s award for Innovation, Originality and Creativity. The latter also affording them the opportunity to represent St. Lucia in Jamaica as the attempt to bring home the trophy from the Junior Achievement Americas.
The ceremony wasn’t only a time for celebration and merriment, it was promised that in honour of Sir George Charles’ Knighthood, the school will be renamed the Sir George Charles Secondary School.Students were urged to keep true to their 24th anniversary theme, “George Charles Secondary School: Uniting through Prayer and Teamwork to Over Come our Struggles” and embrace prayer in their everyday activities as well as work together in unison rather than be divided.
