As Independence nears, the excitement increases for nine girls, as they prepare for the annual Miss Independence pageant.
Eight out of nine contestants made their first official public appearance at the City Hall on Saturday January 30, at the Miss Independence launch namely Shontell David, Theona Edan, Jessie Wilson, Edel William, Lisa Eugene, Sherleone Delaire, Tara Gonzague and Jhymani Joseph.
The girls introduced themselves to attendees with soft smiles, giving them a brief description of their background, also inviting them to witness a fantastic show at the National Cultural Centre on February 20, at 7:00 p.m.
“This year the pageant will be hosted under the theme ‘Human Rights, Let’s Get It Right.’ where each of the contestants will choose a theme and under that theme, will tie in the general theme of the pageant in their portrayal on the night,” Paunline Francis, Miss Independence 2014 and committee member for Miss Independence 2016, told YO! in an interview.
The girls who hail from Vieux Fort, Dennery, Micoud and Castries, will be attending a number of workshops in the near future and will also be participating in a fashion show at Bay Gardens Beach Resort, (Bougainvillea Conference Room), today, February 6, where they will be showing offdesigns from variouslocal designers.
“I’m urging the public to come out and support the girls. We have a lot of young women at this show and out there who have a lot of talent, however they don’t have an avenue to express it so this is an opportunity for them to show off their talent, intellect and intelligence,” the 2014 queen said in closing.
