On Saturday May 26th, 2018, The St. Lucia Red Cross Youth will be hosting its annual Mr. and Miss Red Cross Youth Pageant. This is the sixth year that the St. Lucia Red Cross Youth Committee has organised the event and this year promises to be just as great as past years, with seven contestants due to participate. The event has become an annual feature on the youth calendar and organised as part of World Red Cross Day activities which are held every year on May 8th. The show will begin at 2.00p.m. at the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School Auditorium and tickets for the event are $20.00 and children under five years free. Tickets are available at Red Cross HQ and participating schools.
Participants of this year’s pageant hail from the St. Joseph’s Convent Secondary School, Entrepot Secondary School, Gros Islet Secondary School, Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School, Castries Comprehensive Secondary School, Ciceron Secondary School and Sir Arthur Lewis Community College.
These young volunteers will perform under the theme “Smile- Everywhere for everyone”. They will be judged on their introduction, talent, ambassadorial wear and ambassadorial speech. This event has always been one with a difference where participants design ambassadorial outfits that are practical as well as versatile to perform the activities of a Red Cross Volunteer. The young volunteers will also be engaging in their ambassadorial speech which has replaced the interview section. The ambassadorial speech will give the contestants the opportunity to speak on different topics affecting our society and solutions to help overcome these issues. The Red Cross and our youth are vital members of our society and the Red Cross Youth Pageant is seen as an avenue to encourage people to actively participate in volunteerism and join a family of caring young people.
Be sure to check out this page next week as we meet our contestants individually.
