The Caribbean Junior Culinary Conference (CJCC) is underway and team Saint Lucia is ready and excited about this year’s conference and competition. The highly anticipated event which kicked off on August 14,ends on August 19, in Culinary Arena, Newton Industrial Estate Christ Church, Barbados.
The CJCC will feature workshops and presentations by respected industry professionals and stakeholders and the highlight of the conference will be the annual Caribbean Junior Duelling Challenge competition.
Karina Abraham and Cheyenne Hippolyte of the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School emerged victorious at Saint Lucia’s Chefs in School Cook Off Competition 2018 and will represent Saint Lucia at the event along with their coach, Chef Frank Faucher of AnseChastanet Resort.
The preparation for the competition this year would not have been possible without the tremendous support and sponsorships from the Tourism Enhancement Fund, CPJ St Lucia, Bank of Saint Lucia, RJB Hotel Supplies, LUCELEC, Scotia Bank and Courts Saint Lucia Ltd.
Over the past five years, the SLHTA’s Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) has invested over $140,000 in the development of Culinary Arts and Food and Nutrition programmes in Secondary Schools throughout the island. The TEF continues to advocate the tremendous potential for poverty alleviation and career mobility through the development of the culinary skills of our youth.
