People constantly bash Jehovah’s Witnesses

Rae A.

People constantly bash Jehovah’s Witnesses for showing up at their doorstep, unannounced. The cheery “good morning” from God’s servants is viewed as a nuisance by many. Some individuals peep through their blinds, or curtains, when they hear that unfamiliar or sometimes familiar voice; two consecutive visits (or more) by Jehovah’s Witnesses will cause many to be on the lookout for individuals with “the good news.” (Perhaps “bad news” is more apt in this instance?)

Many individuals turn away from the Word of God. The truth is, some people are simply too busy with their lives to spare five minutes of their time, and others, frankly, believe the Word of God is boring. Growing up many of us fell asleep in church (some children brought this little tradition into adulthood too!) In fact, as a child, I was one of the guilty ones. Every Sunday, I’d rest my head on the bench in frontme after praise and worship, and hoped that fellow churchgoers would believe that I was deep in prayer. (I couldn’t help but grin at the thought.)As an adult, I welcome the sermons. Sometimes they seem to go on forever, but even then, The Word is food for thought and therapy for the soul.

I have stumbled on a number of Facebook statuses and memes, where individuals expressed that they hated those unwanted visits. The thing is when we’re doing well, (some of us at least,) we never seem to need God. When things are not going our way, we all need God RIGHT AWAY. Atheist or not, you will call out the name of the Lord.

I recall someone saying that some individuals proudly state that they have nothing to do with God, but the minute their lives flash before their eyes, the first thing they shout is “Oh my God!” In that moment, some never even realized that they called out that powerful name at first. (Says a lot doesn’t it?)

This week I’d like to encourage you to give God’s people a chance. I’m not suggesting that you commit to anything, but once, or twice at least, open your door and listen to what they have to say. They won’t take up an hour of your time I’m sure; you can even state that you only have five minutes to spare. They will be happy to share what they can with you in five minutes. You will discover that some of these individuals are actually very likable individuals. If you don’t want to chat right away, you can even take a number. You never know—that person just might be your shoulder to lean on in a dark period.

Remember, life will not always be a bed of roses. When things take a turn for the worse, we surely will need God and The Word from that stranger, just might be the thing that saves you.

Have a good weekend all.

Sincerely, always,

Rae A.
