Numerous accolades, acknowledgements and achievements in the bag,the Soca Viking Bunji Garlin is a man of many captivating talents. From incomparable hooks to a warm personality, Garlin is a musical hit machine. Catapulted to stardom in 2002 after winning the International Soca Monarch with Down in the Ghetto,the Viking hasn’t seen a ceiling since. An ambassador for Campari in the region,he appreciates true style, flair and passion.
Slated to appear as part of Carnival celebrations at the ultimate kickoff event,Famalay, alongside Shenseea, Skinny Fabulous, Mr. Killa and Asa Bantan, he says fans should expect explosive energy as he performs for ‘home’.
“The energy for Carnival in St. Lucia is unique and unlike any other part of the region. It’s high, bold and unapologetic. It’s part of my lineage; my dad is from there and I am enjoying learning about the places he may have grown up,” saidGarlin.
With technology at the center of other hidden passions, Bunji says Carnival 2020 will see him expanding his scope further than earlier imagined. The artiste who declares he can’t live without music is open to where other opportunities may lead. “Carnival 2020 will have a definite vibe, strong recordings and some major international projects that I can’t mention as yet,” he continued.
A true family man, Bunji Garlin has been married to Soca royalty Fay-Ann Lyons since 2006 and the couple shares a 10-year-old daughter. Between, tours, shows, performances and studio sessions, he balances different aspects of his life through a strict time system.
“Family life is very important to me; I balance by emphasizing on the important things being addressed first and work from there. Time is important, time spent with family is even more important,” he explained.
Now in his second year representing the drink of carnival in the region, Campari, Bunji Garlin has mastered just about every easy mix but maintains his favourite is the Campari Orange. Having experienced the drink on every occasion, his favorite, he says, was being immersed in the brand in Milan, Italy. “It’s definitely one of my favorite experiences”
