Choiseul Credit Union’s Choiseul Craftmasters are the Digicel SPL T2019 Champions after they defeated last year’s winners South Castries Lions by 22 runs. On a day that saw the Renegades from Mabouya Valley claiming third place over the Gros Islet Knights, the final match was a very much anticipated one. Defending champions Lions knew they had their work cut out for them against an unbeaten Craftmasters team who were eager to win their first SPL title.
The much anticipated 2019 final lived up to its hype with spectators at the edge of their seats throughout most of the game. The Craftmasters seem to be under pressure up until Audy Alexander (45 runs) and Bradley Tisson (27 from 13 balls) brought respectability to the end of inning total. With Fletcher at the crease, one always thought that the Lions were the ones in control and that was surely the case until Fletcher departed for 73 off the bowling of Tisson. Once Fletcher went, so did the hopes of the Lions and for the first time in the game, the Craftmasterslookedvery comfortable. Their hard work to stay in the game seemed to have paid off. Audy walked away with Man of the Match honours after he built the foundation for his team’s victory, whilst Andre Fletcher picked up the Player of the Tournament award. Though Tisson was not named the man of the match, his performance will surely be remembered for his quick fire 27 and the wicket of Fletcher as they were two major turning points in the game.
The Digicel SPLT2019 powered by the Ministry of Sports and National Lotteries was as exciting as it gets with all sorts of emotions. Fans witnessed many records being broken on June 16with a few scores over 200, 2 totals of 99 and the first ever SPL century by Gaspard Prospere. Fans were able to see replays of the games on Winners TV, reliving all the Nagico Maximums and Lucelec Power Boundaries that were hit. The fans in their team replica shirts and the music from SPL’s main guy Scady Dot P all added to the party atmosphere at the games. The pitches this year got praises from the players, as they were very well prepared by Al Prince.
The organizing team would like to thank everyone who made this year’s tournament possible. Without you, the party would never be the same.
