18-year-old Kersandra Edwards is the Queen of Gros Islet. The teen was crowned on Sunday August 18, at the Gros Islet Resource DevelopmentCentre, and this, no doubt, was a wonderful achievement for her, as it was only her first attempt at pageantry.
The model went up against five other beauties from the community;Aaliyah Bonaire, Agnita Paul, Francine Mason, Nellisa Richard and Mahalia Charles.
They appeared in six segments (Promotional Speech, Swimwear, Costume, Talent, Creative Wear and Interview) and offered their best every time.
It was a fantastic show. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and each moment seemed better than the next. The swimwear and costume segment showed off the girls’ toned bodies and walk, whilst the Creative Wearhighlighted designers’ strengths. Designers thought outside the box for this segment and wowed the audience with their impressive creations; a steel wool, spoon and tarpaulin dress (amongst others) left many speechless.
In the talent segment, there was song, dance, drama and more—the other segments did not disappoint either.
By the end of the night, however, it was clear that Kersandra was the star of the show. Consistent in all segments and never missing a beat, Kersandra was truly a queen.
The Queen of Gros Islet hopes to become a dermatologist or an international model (can’t go wrong either way!) and is currently a second year A level student at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, where she is studying Biology, Chemistry and Spanish. She is also a graduate of the St. Joseph’s Convent.
The Queen of Gros Islet Pageant has always been a ‘must see’ event. This comes as no surprise, however, as the event is organized by pageant expert Janice Dupal. Kudos to ‘Lady J’ Pageants for putting on another excellent event!
