Hewanorra Plains Leo Club Celebrates 5

October 09, 2019 marked the fifth anniversary of the certification of the Hewanorra Plains Leo Club. To observe this momentous milestone, the club organized a weekend of activities from October5 – 7 for its members as well as the members of the Leo and Lions clubs in Saint Lucia.

The weekend celebrations kicked off with the induction of four new members to the Leo club at a special ceremony of the Lions Zone meeting held at the Beacon Restaurant in Soufriere. On October 6, Leos and Lions from clubs across Saint Lucia came together for achurch service at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Vieux Fort, followed by brunch. The weekend’s commemorative activities culminated with a community service project that benefitted the patients and staff of the Pediatric Ward of St. Jude Hospital. This project included a visit to the ward and the presentation of a hamper containing puzzles, board games, activity books, stationary and a standing electric fan, among other items.

Leo Meghann Pultie, President of the Hewanorra Plains Leo Club, along with members of the club presented the items to Dr. Christine Burt and the nurse on the ward. They warmly welcomed the donation and in response explained that it would go a long way in providing some form of positive engagement to the young patients and their families during their recovery.

Following the handover, the Leos thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to interact and spend time with the pediatric patients. They got a renewed appreciation for the plight of the less fortunate and ways in which they can be of further service to those in need.
