Jervaunie Kellence Lionel is wickedly talented. We don’t know how he does it, but somehow he’s able to transform even the simplest image into pure art. His laptop is his canvas and there, he takes his work to a next level. Below, the 19-year old tells us all about his love for digital art and more.
How long have you been a digital artist?
I’ve been a digital artist for about three years. Seeing Ted Sandiford’s work along with my favourite YouTuber, CHIWORLD1234, just amazed and also inspired me to get into digital art. I had no clue as to how to do what other digital artists are capable of at first. I was self-taught. I watched a couple of videos on YouTube and got it right the very first time. I had faith that I would become an even better digital artist in time. Going in this direction is such an amazing thing. I get to illustrate many pieces and I also get many opportunities and that satisfies me.
What do you love most about it?
What I love most about digital art, is that uniqueness. It has taught me how to be creative, how to have my own style and be part of such an inspiring art culture. I hope to gain more opportunities from it. Also, I wish that one day, sooner or later, I will enter a digital art or graphics institute.
Who or what inspires your work?
What really inspires my work is its difference. My work is me and I say it’s valuable. My audience also motivates me and encourages me to keep on pushing because they see something in me that I myself can’t see. I am someone who’s hard working; a young man with great talented abilities and most importantly, someone who has a passion for digital art. I may not be the best, but to me, I AM!! THE BEST!!! And for me to be more than just that, all I need to do, is push forward.
What do you hope to gain from it?
I wish to become a professional programmer. I do intend on making digital art a full time career, but because of the income rate at the moment, I tend to keep it part-time. Digital art is a little challenging. For instance, getting the details right. It takes a lot of time for me to get one digital art project done. I would say it takes me at least 24 hours to complete one Digital Art project.
Apart from digital art, what else do you love?
I’m involved in the singing ministry. What I love is that we go out there and touch someone’s heart who can relate to the songs that we sing. Also, I play the drums. I wouldn’t say I’m a professional at it, but, I got some jam to it. I love that it’s loud and I get to play it;not just for playing sake, but more importantly, to praise God. I am also a photographer. What I love bout photography is that it allows you to capture beauty; like a person or artifact that not everyone can find.
I just want to end of by saying whatever you’re good at, don’t let it wear off. Use it to the best of your ability. Be you and use your talent in a positive way.
