I read somewhere that “when you choose the behaviour, you also choose the consequences” – and that stayed with me for a while. In this week’s edition of Don’t Forget To Be Awesome, we look at owning our truth in the face of adversity.
When we think of consequences, we usually think about the bad effects that come along with our bad actions. These thoughts are valid. Life is cyclical, and we receive the bad that we put out into the universe. What you don’t normally think (or talk) about is the consequences associated with being who you are; standing firm in what you believe, or fighting the many battles life throws at you.
I have a friend of mine, who voices her opinions about everything, from the unfairness people are met with, to the type of food she doesn’t like. In the end, however, some people (fitedowns, as we’d call them) try to undermine her, or worse. Another struggle is being a woman who has the courage to stand up and speak out.
In the face of these consequences, do we stop being ourselves? No, we don’t. This week, while being awesome, don’t forget that we have many crosses to bear as authentic and self-loving beings. Yet, we must never cower in fear. Instead, accept the consequences associated with being you; the consequences of living your truth. In the event that you have done something wrong, a mistake, or otherwise, own up to it. You do not only owe it to the person, you owe it to yourself. Remember that you are not perfect. Remember that you only endeavour to be your best self – and Don’t Forget To Be Awesome.
